Kestrels in Ceredigion.

Interesting reports from Ian and Harry regarding Kestrel sightings around Aberaeron.  In order to assist with the decline in numbers of potential nesting sites, which may be a factor in limiting breeding success, the North Ceredigion section of the Wild Life Trust along with other concerned informal groups have installed nest boxes throughout the county. Of the 70 plus nest boxes that have been checked so far this season only 4 are occupied! Much lower than the  past few years.

To date this monitoring has only covered the inland sites - observations from along the coast indicate that even here there are fewer than in previous years.

The number of sightings being reported on this site are also well down. Clearly we have a situation requiring further investigation.
